Teachers

The GPA Administrator application uses Teacher to represent teachers, instructors, professors, and the like. To add teachers, search for teachers, update teacher information, and view their assigned classes, click on the Teachers icon from the Navigation Bar at the top of your window.

Teachers are listed in alphabetical order. If necessary, click on the Next and Previous links to navigate between multiple pages of teachers.

For each teacher, you will see a unique Teacher ID and the teacher's Name. Click on the Edit link to edit teacher information. Click on the Details link to view more details about a teacher, including classes he or she is teaching in the currently selected school and term.

Note that you can always return to the teacher list by clicking on the View Teachers link within the Options panel in the right-hand side of your window. Use the Current View link to return to the most recently used view in the Teachers module.

Searching for Teachers

To search for a teacher or multiple teachers, use the search box in the panel on the right-hand side of your window. You may enter first and/or last names to search for, then press the "Enter" key or click on the > button. Search keywords are case insensitive, meaning that it does not matter if you enter upper and lowercase letters (e.g. searching for "smith" will find "Smith").

Partial matches are also allowed, so you need only enter part of the teacher's name. Further, you may enter a teacher's Teacher ID to quickly look up a teacher (e.g. searching for "2" searches for the teacher with a Teacher ID of 2).

If a teacher is found, your search will bring you to the Details view for the selected teacher, which is also available by clicking the Details link from the View Teachers view. You may click on the Edit link to edit the teacher's contact information (see Viewing and Editing Teacher Contact Information below). You may also view and edit class information (see 'Viewing and Editing a Teachers Class Details''' below).

Adding a Teacher

To add a new teacher, click on the Add a Teacher link in the panel on the right-hand side of your window. In the Add a Teacher form that appears, you are required to enter the teacher's First Name, Last Name, and address (i.e. Address, City, State, and Zip Code). Optional fields include the teacher's Middle Name, a variety of phone numbers, and whether the teacher is Active or not.

Once you have entered all of such information, be sure to click on the Add Teacher button at the bottom of your window to add the new teacher.

Viewing and Editing Teacher Contact Information

From the View Teachers view, click on the Edit link corresponding to the teacher you would like to make changes to. In the Update a Teacher form that appears, you are required to enter the teacher's First Name, Last Name, and address (i.e. Address, City, State, and Zip Code). Optional fields include the teacher's Middle Name, a variety of phone numbers, and whether the teacher is Active or not.

Be sure to click on the Update Teacher button at the bottom of your window to update the teacher's contact information.

Viewing and Editing a Teacher's Class Details

From the View Teachers view (or as a result of a teacher search), click on the Details link corresponding to the teacher for which you would like to see class details. On the left-hand side of your window, you will see the teacher's contact information. Click on the Edit button to make changes to this information (and see Viewing and Editing Teacher Contact Information above for further instructions).

In the Classes section to the right, you will find all classes the teacher is assigned to teach in the current school and term. Much of the same functionality available via the Classes module is available here.

For each class, you will see a unique ID, Period, and Name (not to be confused with the class's Subject, which is not shown here). All elements shown are clickable. Click on a class's ID or the corresponding Details link to view details regarding the selected class. Click on the Period link or the Name link to view all classes offered in the selected period or with the given name. Further, click on the Edit link to edit the class. Click on the Duplicate link to make a copy of the class.

See the Classes chapter for more instructions on managing classes.

Use the Current View link in the right-hand side panel to return to the Details view of the selected teacher.

You may assign a new class to the selected teacher by clicking on the Add link. In the Add a Class form that appears, specify the Class Name, its Subject, its maximum Capacity, and the number of Credits, all of which are required fields. You may also select a Period and specify whether the class entails an Extra Point in GPA calculations.

As mentioned above, see the Classes chapter for more information.
